Requiem SSE Megathread

I. Introduction

Skyrim Special Edition has been discussed for years now. With SSE having become the primary modded game these days, people have been anxiously awaiting Special Edition support from Requiem. With better graphics and a more stable game, there is no questioning SSE is the way to go.

Why am I posting this? There are too many people asking the same questions both here and, on the Discord, and I felt like we should have a place with consolidated information that people could easily find.

II. Official Special Edition Version

Requiem 4.x is stated to be the last version of Requiem for LE, after which 5.0 will be a direct port of 4.x and be an SSE exclusive. It is not clear when this will occur. The official 4.0 and 4.0.1 versions have just been released as of July 2020. The Requiem team does this as a hobby, not a job. Do not expect things to be done quickly. Historically, things have not progressed very quickly, so do not expect 5.0 to be released only a couple weeks later.

III. Unofficial Special Edition Version

People have taken to expediting Requiem’s port to SSE by implementing it themselves. There is a popular guide on Lover’s Lab (LL), a 3rd party site known for hosting explicit 18+ Skyrim mods. With some time, you can convert Requiem to SSE yourself. There is also a file containing Requiem’s converted files to SSE, along with links to several people’s personal dropboxes/google files with converted Requiem patches on the LL Requiem SSE page. Most people go this route and download it from here. If you are to use these, please also download the original LE versions of the mods to show the authors support. These releases are not official, and they are not uploaded on the Nexus. They are personal files that users have converted to share with those who would like to use them too. They are not affiliated with the original authors. The site can be found here https://www.loverslab.com/topic/91985-requiem-v401-for-sse-conversion-guide-for-mod-organizer/

IV. Mod Addons/Patches

Many mods have been converted and are available from those file hosting sites I mentioned earlier. However, some Requiem-SSE specific patches and mods are also available on the Nexus, despite not having an SSE version of Requiem on the Nexus. Popular mods including 3tweaks and Vigilant patch are available already converted on the file hosting sites, while other mods like Fozar’s Dragonborn and AzTweaks are officially out for SSE on the Nexus. If using any of these, please download the original LE file to show your support if applicable. The best way to find these available patches are visiting the LL website and there are links to converted mods and file hosting sites, searching the SSE Nexus for “requiem”, and searching the Discord under “Mod Releases.”

V. Wabbajack

Wabbajack contains several mod lists containing Requiem for SSE and the converted files are the same ones discussed earlier, although you will not have to manually download them if you use the automated installation option with Nexus premium. Several popular ones include Noir, Total Skyrim Overhaul, and Serenity, each much different than the last. Check them out; the modlist authors have carefully curated a functional load order to save you the trouble.

VI. FAQ and Troubleshooting

Requiem itself is more involved than the creation club style of modding and newer members of the modding community will often have difficulty installing it. Most of the time reading directions is more than enough to successfully complete the install, but here we are. Before we begin, please use mod organizer. You will save yourself a lot of trouble in the future. As I only use mod organizer, I will only comment about mod organizer problems.

  • The Reqtificator says Requiem.esp is missing but I have it ticked on in my load order! (v3.3 and up)
    • The Reqtificator is looking at the wrong load order. When you run the Reqtificator, it should ask you to locate your plugins.txt file. DO NOT show it your plugins.txt file. Instead, lead it to loadorder.txt located in %localappdata% or Appdata/local/skyrimspecialedition. If this folder is empty, that is okay, as the file will be generated during the process. If you cannot get this to work, you can lead it to your Mod Organizer’s loadorder.txt file for the profile you are using located in modorganizer/profiles wherever you have MO installed. If using the second option, you will have to guide the Reqtificator to your loadorder.txt every time you change profiles.
    • Not getting prompted to direct the Reqtificator to your plugins.txt? Delete your Skyproc folder found in your overwrite folder in MO (or you can delete the entire overwrite if you don't use it for something else), make sure you properly deleted your localappdata for Skyrim Legendary, and try again.
  • I'm missing Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch (USLEP)! (v3.3 and up)
    • You most likely have Skyrim Legendary Edition information located in %localappdata% or Appdata/local/Skyrim. This needs to be removed, either deleted or backed up elsewhere.
  • The Reqtificator isn't asking for my INI file like the directions say it will
    • The Reqtificator is using your Skyrim LE INI file instead. This is a minor issue if that, but you can solve this by removing, either deleting or backing up, your LE INI located in Documents/My Games/Skyrim.
  • The Reqtificator is reading my unchecked plugins as active!
    • The Reqtificator is a little dumb in newer versions. Every plugin in your right panel of MO2, even if it's unchecked, is considered active by the Reqtificator and will try to reqtificate it. You need to either inactivate the mod to remove the plugin, hide it under mod options Optional ESPs in MO2, or you can configure it in the blocklist.txt, which I will not discuss how to do here. What you should do is deactivate the mod.
      • Let's say you have a mod that you need to use that comes with a FOMOD installer option, and let's say you also have multiple profiles, with 1 being used for Requiem. You install the FOMOD and you want the Requiem patches, but you also need patches that are specific to your other profile's mods. If you try to hide the optional ESPs, they'll be hidden from all of your profiles, which will cause issues. You can either utilize blocklist.txt, or alternatively re-install the mod and rename it so you'll effectively have 2 mods, with 1 for each profile.
  • Helgen beginning broken!!-!!-!/$& (v3.4 and prior)
    • Yes, the vanilla start is indeed broken. Fear not, you have several options. AS-LAL with the appropriate patch, Skyrim Unbound Reborn, or, my personal choice, a fix incorporated into Requiem 4.0 and beyond officially that has been back ported. It changes the horse speeds in the intro so they don't get misaligned. You can find the link on the LL page called Fix Vanilla Start Horse Bug (ESP) (by Banananaut), or here www.everplanet.tk/SkyrimSSE/HorseFix.zip
  • I’m MiSsInG bUg fIxEs!!!!!!!
    • The version of Bug Fixes/Crash Fixes referenced by the Reqtificator do not exist for SSE, but I’ll do you one better. Install Bug Fixes SSE and SSE Engine Fixes. Use the preloader from SSE Engine Fixes. Ignore the warning messages while using the Reqtificator, then head to your requiem MCM. In the last section, there is a choice to disable error/bug messages. Tick that box.
  • sLanguage=English - your INI file language is incorrect?!?
    • It may say sLanguage=English or something similar. Run MO2 as administrator. Simple fix.
  • The Reqtificator does not handle ESL files, period.
    • One of the problems the Requiem team will have to overcome is that the Reqtificator does not recognize ESL files. You would have to convert them to an ESP form to be recognized (which isn’t hard, quick google search).
    • What about ESL flagged ESPs? This is a tricky question. There are people and modlists that use them without a problem. But to be on the safe side, many of us do not recommend using them. They may work fine, but for troubleshooting issues, using them is a risk that you take and do not ask for help with them.
  • Critical damage from certain perks will not be calculated correctly.
    • When running the Reqtificator, some of the secret magic being done results in form 43-esque hidden stuff being generated. Once you have an RFTI completed, open the CK and set RFTI as the active plugin, let it load, and save it. This will convert RFTI to SSE and your critical attacks will function correctly. To be honest, this point is extremely minor and is just here for sake of completeness.
    • See this video for easy instructions on setting up the Creation Kit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq1F62MOviY and make sure you also install CK Fixes from here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/20061
    • This is for advanced users and is not a requirement.

VII. Discord

If you did not know, there is a very active Requiem Discord server. Stop by sometime. There are a lot of users using SE there and it is much easier to ask simpler questions and get quicker responses.
